Robber Fly

Leptogaster sp.

Description:

This tiny fly is only 1 cm long and just captured its lunch. It looked like a hair and a dot flying in the air until it landed and I got one shot. It flew away afterward. This appears to be a similar if not the same fly I spotted in June: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/273...

Notes:

Subfamily Leptogastrinae

Thanks! I'm ok with genus although I hope it can be brought to species soon. Apparently there are 30 known species in the US and Canada. I wonder if this is a Mexican species.

Very cool find! I'm sad you still don't have a species ID for this amazing little insect.
