Description:

This is a male Red-breasted Merganser off the shores of Chebeague Island, Maine. Medium diving duck. Feeds on fish which it dives for. The male has a green head, double crests and neck with a white neck ring. Feet and legs are orange. Locally also called a shelldrake.
