That may be a reasonable ID; I hadn't really considered it since most of our honey mushrooms are more hirsute. It seemed to be most closely associated with the roots of a Douglas fir that was also colonized by Chanterelles. I usually find Armillaria mellea on red alder here. But maybe, as you say, there is another Armillaria species that fits.
