Spotting

Description:

Black and orange shelf fungus. Earlier in the season it was the more usual tan coloured. It is on a decomposing log on a path and may have gotten damaged by traffic.

Habitat:

Dead log on a path in high park. Usually shady but getting brighter now that leaves are off the large maple tree nearby.

Notes:

I think it is damaged/diseased and dying.
