Cisticola fulvicapillus
Sabie river thickets
Thanks for the scientific name & ref. link suggestion Emma, I have updated the page.
That's OK, I think pictures without ID initially go into the "wanting ID" page, then stay there forever, even though they have been ID'd since.
Like many countries, the South African's have their own Common names for birds and animals and their books are usually printed with their own common names which can be very confusing but these are the only ones I have. They also do not put latin names so no help there either. My plan is to post all the pictures, then search through for the alternative names and latin names later. Neddicky comes from the Afrikaans name which is Neddikkie.
I'm sorry, I wasn't familiar with the term 'Nedicky' (Googled the name, and the official name is Piping Cisticola). But your sighting was under 'Needs ID', so I figured if you want a confirmation, Birdforum.net is the place to go. I don't believe there are many people here who are very familiar with African birds.
Much better! I did view all the photos but I suggested you move the clearest one to the front because a lot of people just view the thumbnails!
Liam, are you saying this is not a Neddicky?
Karen, I have moved the pic for you, but if you click on the + sign, then select the photo you want, you can see them all clearly. (This function does not work in IE but does in Chrome).
Malcolm, please can you move photo 2 to the front so we can see the bird more clearly?
Malcolm, I would suggest requesting the ID of the birds on Birdforum.net. There are plenty of experts from all over the world that can help you.
