Stygian Owl

Asio stygius

Description:

The Stygian Owl is a fairly widespread species but always difficult to find. I photographed this bird in the vast Zapata Swamps of Cuba. It obtains its name from the legendary dark River Styx, in reference to this bird's dark plumage.

What an awesome owl! I would love you to add this spotting (and any others that apply) to the mission Raptors of North America: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8627...

I can only wonder the level of difficult to take such a photo... To be able to see it seems to be a huge challenge. To take the shot... Thanks for sharing.
