Carpodacus mexicanus
A visitor to my balcony looking for seeds.
Urban house balcony bird feeder.
This bird does not show the distinct facial pattern nor the vibrant colors of the Purple Finch. Just your run-of-the-mill House Finch here.
I cannot claim to be an expert either. Birds are not my specialty by any means, especially those in California. Looking more I also found the following: Common Redpoll. Which is also a similar finch.
Thank you for the information Apple! Do you think it matches more with the house finch above? The red is not as raspberry in my photo, but I am no expert.
If it is a purple finch, it would be a male.

The purple finch is half way down the page.
