here we are in the beginig of a real protect policy of sencibel areas,in this local the work is good and made whith the local environement organizations(Querqus,Fapas,Lpn)the hunting is now forbiden in many places, european comunity laws make a diference since we are in(1986),but the principal thing is education and that only when this generatios grow, ancient people tend to look animal's like if they where here to be used by us,so time will solve some problems i hope:-)

@ Antonio, I am really surprised to here some of the above details. I live in a region where there are animal activists . Any cruel behavior towards an animal could result in a big riot!! The hills around where I live are protected any no hunting or vehicles are allowed. There was a recent incident of duck shooting at a pond. All the ducks were relocated to another pond for safety ,till the matter was resolved. This does not mean that we do not have our incidences of abuse. But people try to be pro active towards animal welfare.

realy?here all the birds, are caution, people in mediterranean countrys chace bird's to eat(mostely) but for fan to(one of the kids plays in my time was trieing to kils birds whith kids weapons,stones,etc...)if you go to a park in central europe it's easy to give food to a blackbird, they dont have afraid, here every bird as afraid of humans.in our days kids dont do that more, that cultural background is luckely desapering and subsistute by preservation habits of the birds that surround us.in a population of 10 million people we have 300.000 chaseurs(?),we was very pouer(not rich) a few decades ago, when i was kid they make normaly house sparrow's rice:-/
in ouer day's the social moral standarts change a lot,is the good part of globalization

I like the way it is standing on such a small stone! The snowy egret we have here is very friendly and likes to hop around with you ,unless of course if it is hungry. Then it does not want to have anything to do with you!

@Emma,there are no Snowy Egret in Europe, look what say in wikipedia"the Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) is a small white heron. It is the Old World counterpart to the very similar New World Snowy Egret." :-)
at first you confuse me, i go again to my field guide of european birds to check and them to wiki to confirm 200% :-)
