A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Philaethria sp.
Large (15 cm/ 6 in), lime green and brown. Red head.
Bayucca, I checked some butterflies with a local expert, and he helped me on their ID. So, I will be posting his conclusions as I fix them. The first one is this: you were right, it is a Philaethria, more specifically P. estelenes. You made a point, pal.
It is the other one: Philaethria sp., Philaethria dido is the most common one, but there are some other species looking identical. I can check later to get a little bit closer.
Plenty of butterflies here. And because I complained about their bad shape, somebody sent a brand new set... :-)
I envy you spotting a butterfly in January Sergio! Nothing around here except the odd fly!
