Description:

large African carnivore that is classified as neither canine nor feline. They are social, living in matriarchal clans of up to 80 individuals. Males generally leave the clan around the age of 2-3 years. They are primarily predators, unlike their relatives the spotted and brown which are primarily scavengers.

Habitat:

Southern Serengeti short grass
