City park. Grass field. Dry Storm water basin.
I have counted as many as 25 of these birds in the city park/storm basin at one time. they have been there almost everyday for a week.
Long-billed Curlews and Whimbrels are very similar. I have to agree with Long-billed Curlew here for two reasons:
1. bill size is much too long for Whimbrel
2. Whimbrels show a distinct, demarcated facial pattern, obviously not on your bird.
