Description:

The Banded Peacock or Princesa Roja is a tropical butterly that has been known to also colonize in southern Texas. They are sun loving butterflies and are most active in the morning.

Habitat:

Southern Texas, Mexico - Central America. Subtropical open fields, disturbed areas, orchards. Host Plants: Wild Petunia (Ruellia) & plants in the Acanthaceae family.

I agree Karen, this butterfly was stunning. I think that it was newly emerged, the majority of the Banded Peacocks in this area were faded & well worn looking.
