Ohia Lehua

Metrosideros polymorpha

Description:

Native flowering tree of Hawaii, seen here with an acrobatic Jananese White-eye just leaving the flower.

Habitat:

Volcanoes National Park, Hawaii

Notes:

Although I could not get a photo of the native Apapane birds that were feeding on these trees, it is also loved by the introduced Japanese White-eye.

This is a wonderful spotting birdlady! Great to see interaction between fauna and flora, even if it is an introduced species.
