Kereru, New Zealand native wood pigeon

Hemiphaga novaeseelandiae

Description:

Very large beautiful New Zealand pigeon. Often heard before it is seen as it is a noisy flyer.

Habitat:

Native forest and near by farmland. Often visits properties with trees laden with ripe fruit!

Notes:

This was taken on my parents farm near the Urewera National Park New Zealand. There we are lucky enough to have a healthy population of this beautiful bird.
