Hmm, you'd better ask the experts, but what I understand is that the female body is mostly red, whereas the male has quite a bit of black on it. You can see it better from a sideways shot. See how there is black on the upper and lower body...http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/8468639. And the female colour is not so vibrant, or so the wings so black it seems. It's hard for me to tell from this view, and then again, I'm just a beginner! All my information is less than a month old!
