Winter heath

Erica multiflora

Description:

Perennial branched shrub, up to 2.5 m in height. Leaves acicular, 6-14 mm long, dark green, almost hidden underside. Large inflorescences with many flowers. Corolla bright pink, white or purple, 4-5 mm long, bell-shaped.

Habitat:

Mediterranean climates. Evergreen bushes, dry, open forests, rocky hillsides, sandstones or dolomías. Requires relatively soft climate witout harsh freezings, so it does not usually penetrate far inland.

Notes:

It is a very common species in mountains in Spain but here I found it in a small botanical garden in our department. At the moment is the only plant that already shows flowers.

Thanks, Cindy! They give a touch of color to our otherwise bare botanical garden at this time of the year :-)
