The wintermycena is a small fungi of the genus Mycena. It is a delicate little fungi that are very temperature sensitive. The fungi appear between October and April on the trunks of live and dead trees, often on beech.
The wintermycena has a hat with a diameter of 0.5 to 2.5 cm, usually brown in color but sometimes whitish, bluish, dark yellow or brown. At the base of the stem, which has a diameter of 1-3 mm, fluffy hairs are located. The myceliumdraden to the stem base pale yellow color in daylight, but give light in the dark. The spores are elliptical to cylindrical in shape and measure 2.5 to 3 microns to 5-7. They are basidiosporen. The scientific name of the wintermycena tintinnabulum reads, literally meaning small bell.
In the Netherlands the toad stool very rarely and is found in the Dutch Red list of fungi classified as "critically endangered". Recently, the fungisoort for the first time in the province of Overijssel spotted on the Twickel estate, famous for its rare mushrooms and a place where regular new to the Netherlands fungisoorten be discovered.
