The House Finch has a round head and short bill. The female is drab all over with blurry grayish streaks. The male has orange-red which is brightest on the forehead. He also has streaked flanks and pale grayish cheeks.
Common and widespread in suburbs and patchy, brushy, and wooded areas.
The Sibley Field Guide To Birds states, "A regular visitor to bird feeders."
