Description:

This small sparrow-sized bird has a red cap on its head from which it derives its name. Streaked on flanks and has a brown/gray patterned back. Males have red on the upper breast.

Habitat:

Has an extremely wide world-range. Breeds in shrubby areas.

This is one of my favorite northern birds. We only usually get them here in winter, so it can be a bit challenging to photograph them in the freezing temperatures of a Minnesota winter.
