A male Blue copper. The upper wing surface of the males are sky blue with dark veins. The second pic shows the underside.
Spotted in the upper canyon of the Umtanum creek in eastern Washington.
Caterpillars do not have a wide selection of plants that they can rely on. They use buckwheat, Eriogonum, species as the hostplant for food. Range: British Columbia south and east through southcentral California, northern Arizona, and northern New Mexico.
