Wandering Glider or Globe Skimmer Dragonfly

Pantala flavescens

Description:

Large dragonfly. Wings transparent with maroon coloured cell. Dark line along the length of the abdomen. Body yellow. Eyes maroon.

Habitat:

On a Spider-lily plant (Hymenocallis littoralis) along the side of a road in a residential colony.

Notes:

The thorny branch was placed there to discourage cows from nibbling the plants. Thanks to Deepti S for the ID. Wikipedia says, It is considered to be the most widespread dragonfly on the planet.

Probably a female Wandering Glider or Globe Skimmer (Pantala flavescens).
