Not quite sure this is a kingsnake - they don't look like this from your part of Texas. Do you have any other photos? How long was it?

Most likely an Eastern Gartersnake - Thamnophis sirtalis but additional photos will help. You are just a bit north for queensnakes although not by much so if it is a queensnake, this is a particularily interesting spotting. Do you have more photos?
