A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Wildlife-obsessed since age 3; love to go out and snap pics of bugs and wild things. People think I'm weird, but normality is overrated.

Sign In to followThat it is! Thanks a lot, bayucca!
Sorry, the mantis kept moving so it could keep its eyes on me and conceal itself (rather poorly, really) behind the twig. I was part of a tour group so I couldn´t stay for too long; these are the only pics I took of it.
Thanks for checking it out, tho!
Not very good ones I'm afraid, check them out.
Good guess but I'm leaning more towards Stilpnochlora azteca or a very close species.
Cool, I didn´t check if there were others :> How do I add it to the mission?
I think there must be some truth to that belief; not the first time something similar happens to me. I already knew about giant earthworms (read about them when I was little), but didn´t know there were so many kinds, and so widespread!
Funny about the giant worm, I was reading about them just the day before he posted it!
But nah, this one is just a neat trick. I actually didn´t plan for the guy to come into frame- he just did.
I would say as long as my index finger. Guy is not in the photo for scale :B
All the nymphs I've seen are exactly like the one in the third link. I've seen adults of two species, tho- the bigger ones are more colorful and don´t seem to produce that sharpie-smelling fluid when caught, unlike the smaller ones.
Thank you! That seems to be it
