Sign In to followHey there, if you saw this in the city, it is most likely a Spotted Dove (http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/species/...), however, it doesn't seem to have the special black and white spots on the neck, so it could be Peaceful Dove as suggested below.
Great spotting. Murray is a good name as this is a male magpie-lark. Keep an eye out for a female, you can tell the difference by the direction of the black feathers around their eyes and whether or not they have a black or white throat. Females have white throats, and the black markings over the eyes are vertical.
I reckon this looks like a perennial form of basil. It grows very well here in Adelaide, where it doesn't mind the hot summers quite so much as other basils.
That is a great shot. Was that in a rockpool or an aquarium somewhere?
This is another great spotting - did you know that even though these Frogmouths look like owls they're actually more closely related to other types of birds such as nightjars?

Thanks for those suggestions - it looks most similar to the Orange Pupa Parasite Wasp illustrated on this page to me, although as you point out John, at the size of the photo, it's hard to make out distinguishing details!
