Thasyraea ornata

Thasyraea ornata

Description:

22mm; streamlined spider, head, thorax, abdomen all contiguous with pale brown and a dark stripe running full length; some small hairs on legs, rear legs are longest.

Habitat:

Suburban house wall.

Notes:

This one ranges from Russia, China to Australia. We also have video of web making to come. Thanks to XingWong.Chun for identity help. "Virtually all internet photos of Australian specimens of a spider labelled as Tibellus tenellus (Family Philodromidae) are now considered to be incorrectly named. The original source of this error appears to have been a photo included in Ramon Mascord's 1980 Spiders of Australia booklet, although at that time Mascord believed Tibellus tenellus belonged in the Family Thomisidae. Dr Robert Raven of the Queensland Museum has now advised that while Tibellus tenellus is listed in Platnick's World Spider Catalog as being present from China to Australia, almost all specimens thought to be this species and found in Queensland are actually likely to be the zorid Thasyraea ornata." - http://www.findaspider.org.au/find/spide...

Wow excellent Chun. Thanks a lot for that. I'll read up about them now.

Your spotting is not a Lynx Spider but a Tibellus spider from the Philodromidae family. They are also called the Slender Crab Spider.

You're right thanks Karen it certainly seems to be one of that family. I will have a really good look soon as I stop uploading more problems :) Mine doesn't have those uncomfortable looking hairs like the Brisbane ones?
