Description:

This lovely large moth did not give me a glimpse of its boldly colored underwings before it took off in a panic. This species has variable coloration of the forwing, usually a mottled gray, brown, black. Hindwings are orange with black striping.

Habitat:

Suburban. Found resting on the side of a building.
