Click beetle

Description:

This one seemed large for a click beetle at about 45mm. Deeply grooved and tapered elytra. Thorax darker black and tan with undulations. Quite unresponsive to touch.

Habitat:

Resting on large grass blade in a local nature reserve.

Notes:

Elateridae.. species still unknown.

I wonder how interesting would be a cross between a click beetle and a firefly. You know, click-light, click-no light...

Nice click beetle there. Large ones are certainly uncommon. You could always put it upside down to test that it is a click beetle (it is).

Thanks for trying doc. I thought I would get it quickly too but no match. Changed size to 45mm for what that's worth.

Yes, Elateridae, Click Beetle. Did not find a reasonable match, though.
