Pytilia melba

Description:

a small (12cm) colorful bird, the male has a bright red bill and face and a grey head, a green back, boldly barred black and white underparts and a red tail. The female is similar but more subdued in colour and without the red face although the bill is still red.

Habitat:

a common bird occurring throughout Botswana, these individuals were part of a mixed bird party drinking from a garden tap in eastern Botswana

Notes:

referred to as Melba finch locally, the bird books also list the name Green-winged Pytilia
