Ophrys lutea

Description:

Distinctive orchid with oval basal leaves; narrow leaves sheathe lower part of stem. Flowers comprise greenish oval sepals and yellowish narrow upper petals; lip is broadly oval, 14-18mm long, 3-lobed and yellow with maroon centre. In spikes, March-May.

Habitat:

Garrigue and stony maquis. Widespread in W and C of region.
