short-horned Grasshopper

family Acridae

Description:

a slim, boldly striped short-horned grasshopper in green & cream, about 4 cms in length. The antennae should be straight and the feet are not really grey; this fellow got caught up in a spiders web but managed to escape taking a portion of the web with her. It is probably a female as the end of the abdomen appears straight and not turned up as is the case with the males

Habitat:

Attracted to the lights in the village shop one evening, in a small rural village in eastern Botswana. Vegetation type bushveld, climate hot, dry with summer rainfall (450mm p.a.)

Notes:

I've been searching the web but I've failed to find a grasshopper with this colour pattern, which is quite distinctive.
