Portrayed here female; smaller and more discreet than a male. Some 50 to 55 in length, mainly grey or brown-grey, with long neck and silver-colored narrow bill. Drake is spectacular, but unfortunately not around during this encounter...

Habitat:

Here seen in shallow open wetlands in and around a Bird Park Villars-les-Dombes, in a marshy area of Dombes; France.
