Phallus multicolor
Both Phallus indusiatus and Phallus multicolor, spectacular species of stinkhorn fungus, are found in Australia. The size of this one was closer to that of indusiatus but the colour of the cap and veil is that of multicolor.
Spotted in a cool subtropical rainforest (Mt Glorious, D'Aguilar Range, Queensland). Found at the bottom of a strangler fig.
Only specimen around..

Yes, let's get a group together :-) I'll advise on dates as soon as possible.
I'd never seen one before. They are awesome! Well I hope we can meet again when you're back in Brisbane. I enjoyed our last bushwalk immensely. Perhaps we could get a group together next time? October will be here in a flash!
Thank you Neil! I have updated the spotting from sp. to multicolor. Aren't they great to come across? Looks like I won't be back until at least October this year.
Excellent spotting, Daniele. This one is Phallus multicolor, very similar to Phallus indusiatus, but smaller and brighter. The smell is about the same ;-) I just found my first specimen at Mt. Coot-Tha.
They are beautiful aren't they Emma? The smell is a different story...
Lovely! Would like to see one of these!
Thanks again Mayra!
Wow! Fantastic!
Thank you!
Thank you Satyen Nice to have you back on PN!
Very pretty!
Thanks Leuba! I hope you will. They are a real work of art aren't they? The smell is not so delicate though :-(
Warm spring thoughts from Switzerland.
I am hoping to see one of these one day..so delicate ! Great spotting Daniele..
When it has Argy you'll be an even more precious asset to PN! I'll make sure to harass you again then:-)
Our book hasn't turned up yet..
Thanks Argybee! Any opinion on the species?
