Stereum ostrea
A shelf fungus that mimics the turkey tail fungus except for one factor. The turkey tail fungus ( Trametes versicolor) has pores on the bottom side, while the false turkey tail is smooth (see pic. 3) - making it a crust fungus rather than a polypore.
Spotted on a log with moss in a dense hardwood forest.
