Calligrapha argus
OMG! this is the most amazing beetle I have seen in Costa Rica. It measures about 3/8" to 1/2" long. Amazing pattern!
Tropical dry forest in Nw Costa Rica 3 weeks into the rainy season
Thank you so much Yuko. It gives me great pride showing you the beauty of my area in Costa Rica.
http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/272... :'D ya se que no es el mismo, pero es que me gustan muchisimo estos escarabajos! fantastica fotografia! http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/212...
Thanks Jason! I agree. I see so few Calligraphy beetles in my area and I just happened to see this same species this morning. Amazing!
I found one other foto but I can't remember where now...sorry. I tried too find it again so that you can have another reference for your beetles.
Where did you find more photos of C. argus? I wasn't able to find any others...
thanks Jeannete! Anne Marie I checked out the link and various other fotos of the ARgus. None of them have the exact same color pattern. I am sure that genetic variance accounts for this difference.
Thanks Lars! Thanks Dr. Atul! Gracias Harsuame! Goody I have edited the spotting to reflect your I.D. I couldn't find a similar looking example anywhere so this will remain, for now, Calligrapha Sp.
Thanks Leuba, I'll check into it. Anne I knew you would especially like this one. Thanks Gin!
Great-looking beetle. It looks like a castor-oil seed mimic except the patterns are too symmetrical and I don't know if you've got castor-oil plants growing in that area. Lovely photos ICN !
