Lepiota

Lepiota haemorrhagica

Description:

Clumps of deep rusty brown mushrooms with shiny caps about 45mm wide. Centres of the caps were dark brown and the colour faded towards the margins. The upper layer also appeared cracked to reveal white flesh. cap margin appeared frayed ( not a technical term !). Gills were a clear white in stark contrast with the cap. Stipe was white and had an upturned annulus which was tinged with brown along the margin.

Habitat:

Growing in grass amongst fallen branches of Leptospermum and Banksia trees. Very sandy soil.

Notes:

The stem is said to be reddish-brown in this species.
