A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
This zoea had a little spike on the top of its head, or a rostrum. With the naked eye, the red in their body stood out. There were many of these crab zoea in the sample.
A marine biologist on board skimmed some plankton using really fine mesh nets. The sample was skimmed in Izhut Bay just off Afognak Island in somewhat deep water (Deeper than 200 feet). This deeper sample was taken with a net with slightly larger mesh so we would get less phytoplankton and more zooplankton.
We used pipettes to pick up the zooplankton out of the seawater sample.
