Description:

This skipper is about 2.5" wide. I spotted it today resting under a heliconia leaf.

Habitat:

Tropical dry forest in NW Costa Rica 8 weeks into the rainy season.

Yes, not a moth, but a skipper. Phocides sp. for sure and it is Phocides belus.

I initially thought it was a moth until I looked deeper. I will remove it now.

Larry, is this a moth, or a butterfly? I am guessing by the clubbed antennae, it is a butterfly. If this is a butterfly, could you please remove this from my mission, Moths of the Americas, as it focuses solely on moths. Thanks so much for understanding, and what a beautiful find! It unfortunately looks like it became part of someone's dinner.
