Black Stork

Ciconia nigra

Description:

Large wading birds that looked black in the fading evening light. It was only after I saw the photographs later that I saw the lighter colour on neck and breast. Initially I was confused because I had taken them to be Ibis (on account of their long bills)and the black ibis I know well has a red nape and this one did not have it.

Habitat:

Flock near Thol Lake in Gujarat...last minute dinner and then a treetop roost.

Notes:

Winter visitor and passage migrant; this is the first time I have seen this bird. hope to get a better picture in good light, some day.
