Cooper's Hawk

Accipiter cooperii

Description:

Been seeing a lot of these Cooper's Hawks lately. One time a juvenile trying to grab a squirrel. The squirrel won. Today I spotted this one on a wire on a busy street. Larger than a Sharp-shinned hawk which can be confusing. This one by the tail and position of the wings I am confident this is a Cooper's.

Habitat:

The hide sometimes in trees to surprise their prey. I have found these mostly near parks where their prey can be found.
