Weeping widow

Lacrymaria velutina (=L. lacrymabunda)

Description:

Broadly convex, yellow-reddish cap surface radially streaked with yellow and brown tinges. Gills black with spores, with pale edges. Stem is 5 to 10cm tall; with a ring zone of pale fibres stained black by falling spores. Grows in clusters.

Habitat:

Foothills of Jura mountains, our town park. Found on unmoved part of meadow, close to ponds.

Notes:

Reportedly comestible when young, but without a distinguished taste or odor.
