BugGuide was guessing this is a pupa of either a Viceroy or Red-spotted purple butterfly. I had seen more Viceroys in the vicinity so perhaps that is the ID. There is a small Versute sharpshooter at the top, which gives a bit of an idea of the size of the pupa if you’re familiar with sharpshooters.
