Pseudalmenus chlorinda
An attractive butterfly in flight, this one is said to have a wing span of about 30 mm. The under side is all I could get a shot of. the wings were pale bluish grey. The forewing had black trailing margin and the hindwing showed a red and black line and delicate tails. Each wing also showed a single black streak in the middle.
Spotted on an Acacia tree (wattle)
Caterpillars are said to feed on a variety of Acacia leaves. Family: Lycaenidae Here is a spotting showing the upper side, which is much darker http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/122...

Thanks Martin. I forgot we spotted these along the far side of Wick's. Adults out towards end of December !
There it is!
This kind of confirms marks caterpillar species.
A very restless butterfly - had to follow it all the way through Wick's !!. I could only get a shot from afar..
I love this butterfly, I only get to see the local grass-blue lycaenids but this one is great
