Yellow rat snake

Pantherophis alleghaniensis

Description:

Yellow rat snake with captured Cuban tree frog in earpod tree

Habitat:

residential back yard

Notes:

Yellow rat snake had caught a Cuban tree frog and was up in the tree. Frog was too big to swallow and giving the snake quite a fight. Ultimately, 2 squirrels began attacking the snake (it was in THEIR tree, after all) and the snake fell about 20' onto the ground and after a few minutes, slowly moved off to the underbrush. Not sure if tree frog survived but he was in bad shape. Last photo shows snake thrashing after squirrel attack--it hit the ground about 2 seconds after photo was taken.
