White Punk

Laetiporus portentosus

Description:

A large white rubbery fungus It is riddled with small tube holes eaten out by beetles The profile looks somewhat like a mushroom but s probaly a fallen bracket fungus.

Habitat:

This was found loose on the grass at the edge of woodlands. I believe it fell to the ground from a tree trunk.

Notes:

Pics 4,5,6 are another white punk found still on a tree (July 3, 2012) in Tocumwal, NSW. The damage is probably from corella (parrot) attack. Pic 6 shows some crumbs on the ground below Another specimen was found nearby and this spotting offers some additional discussion. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/113... I suspect this is Laetiporus portentosus according to this link http://australianfungi.blogspot.com.au/2... http://woodsrunnersdiary.blogspot.com.au...

Yes, well done argybee. Your young specimen is certainly attractive but these old skeletons look rather sad.
