Wolf Spider

Lycosidae

Description:

Agile hunters that live alone and actively hunt prey instead of tending to webs. Have exceptional eyesight and often hunt at night. Tend to be brownish-gray and can grow just over an inch in length.

Habitat:

Found in a wide range of habitats both coastal and inland, including shrublands, woodlands, wet coastal forests, alpine meadows, and suburban gardens. For most people, wolf spiders are common pests in their homes.

Notes:

Often confused with the venomous Brown Recluse, but they lack the unmistakable violin-shaped marking behind the head.
