Polygonia satyrus
orange and black butterfly with raggedly edged weeds. The underside has a silver comma shaped mark on it, hence the name. Butterflies in this family prefer overripe fruit to nector and their larva prefer nettles as a food plant. Can be found in any forest which meets those requirements.

This little guy was basking in the sun and was very cooperative to my photo taking endeavors, having just repelled an oregon swallowtail and a member of its own species from the area

Thanks!
Great spotting!
I cannot decide if I like the 2nd or 4th shot best. The eyes do show up better as I was closer, but thee is something I like about #2. I was really amazed at the clarity in every shot. Choosing no more than 4 was difficult. And Thank you!
Perfect spotting...specially like its eyes in 4th shot...
Thank you!
