Apple bark borer moth

Synanthedon pyri

Description:

I spotted this apple bark borer moth in a meadow at Lichterman Nature Center in Memphis. The female is distinguished by pale yellow at the tops of its antennae and a yellow band on its tuft.

Habitat:

This moth was in a meadow, feeding from a tall pink plant.

Notes:

It was very active--hence my only getting off two snaps!
