The Bad-wing Moth

Dyspteris abortivaria

Description:

Family: Geometrid. The only species of the Genus Dyspteris in North America. Adults likely do not feed.

Habitat:

Eastern North America (Quebec to Florida, west to Texas, north to Manitoba). Flight: mid-April to August. Near edges, woodlands, with hostplants. Host Plants: Grape (Vitis spp.) and Virginia Creeper (Parthenocissus spp.).

Notes:

Size: 1". 10:06 pm EST. Temp 72. Observed under a porch light.

I agree, it is beautiful. Supposedly it gets its name from the wings being nearly impossible to pin for collections!
