Ardea herodias
This is one of our most common herons, often barking like a dog when startled. Seen stalking small fish in shallow water.
This blue heron was nesting in a treetop on the side of the road at the Grayton Beach State Park in Santa Rosa, Florida. It was windy and his feathers were all fluffed. He did not seem to mind people stopping their cars or getting off their bikes to take its picture. When I rode back from the beach, he was in the water looking for a fish.

My pleasure!
Thanks Larry for the comment on "breeding plumage." I had never seen a blue heron with his feathers fluffed out like that before. Gave him a total different look.
Thanks for comment about the breeding plumage. I thought it was the wind making his feathers look like that. Total different look for this blue heron.
Lovely breeding plumage!
