Australian Wood Duck

Description:

Male- Dark brown head, neck & mane. Lower back & tail are black, wings are grey. Female- General plumage above is grey-brown. Back, rump & tail black, head & neck pale brown. White line above & below eye. Breast & flanks brown, each feather crossed with a white band, lower breast, belly & undertail white.

Habitat:

Though well equipped to swim, the Wood Duck is more often found on the ground or perched in a tree, rather than swimming in water. It prefers to live in lightly timbered country near water.
